New Version of CrypTool — CT 1.4.41 released

A new release of CrypTool 1 was published on March 27, 2018.

This mature version is available in 6 languages (German, English, Spanish, Polish, Serbian, and French). Compared to 1.4.40, it contains many small bug fixes and corrections (especially for functions using Animal, Flash, HTML, and PDF).

The open-source project CrypTool (CT) creates the most widespread e-learning programs for cryptography and cryptanalysis. The CT programs are used at many schools and universities worldwide, but also in companies and administrations to make understanding of encryption and IT-security methods easier.

CrypTool 1 (CT1) is an offline program you can download for free from the website www.cryptool.org.

CT1 will still be maintained in the future. However, bigger new enhancements will only go into the two offline-successor versions

  • CrypTool 2 (CT2, built with C#, Visual Studio, .NET, and WPF) and
  • JavaCrypTool (JCT, built with Java, Eclipse, RCP, and SWT);

as well as into CTO (www.cryptool-online.org) which runs within a browser on a PC or smartphone.

The development of CT1 started in 1998, and among all three CT offline programs (CT1, CT2, and JCT), it still has the biggest dissemination (the term "offline" is used here in the opposite to the browser variant CTO, which requires the user to be "online").

We would be happy if many of you continue to use CrypTool for teaching, self-study, education, and awareness. Please continue to give us feedback and to contribute with new algorithms and implementations.
